what of early Oronegro part 2

well sort of in the last instalment I discussed the possibilities of using some Austrians as Oronegrean infantry and doing some conversions. well in this second installment I am proposing a different group to be the Oronegreans...  Württemberg. well the helmets are very similar as you will see but also its the sets available that makes them appeal to me. well the cavalry is yet to be released but look at the numbers.

HaT Württemberg Infantry  100x figs
HaT Württemberg Cavalry 12x cavalry
HaT Württemberg Artillery  16x figs and 4 guns

yes I know the artillery set has a pitiful crew but perhaps Oronegrean gunners were super efficient like F1 pit crews today. also the infantry are great you can either go to PSR or perhaps you can visit this section of the HäT site. I like the infantry set because of the Ratio of figure types; 40 infantry in helmets, 20 light infantry/ scouts (they will get tricorns or other suitable head gear) and 16 grenadiers (will get tricorns) also not to mention the NCO's officers and drummers that bring this set up to full strength.

so perhaps these men will be our Oronegreans instead. but your advice would be more than welcome.

  1. They look nice too, and if they use the same plastic that they have lately, ought to be easy to convert.

You may like to have a look at the Zvezda sets here as well

In my opinion they are beautiful, plus most have tricorns. And if you want helmets, perhaps you could mix these in

    Good luck whatever you choose!

    1. yes those are very good sets. I did wonder about those sets for quite some time, however in the end I felt that they wore clothing not suitible for the warmth of Oronegro. thanks for the advice though.

  2. Napoleonic, hey? Well, it makes sense that under hot climates 18th C. 'European' soldiers adapted their uniforms to a 'lighter' cut?

  3. In 28mm several ranges (e.g. Galloping Major) have 'Provincials in short coats' who would be perfect for mid-18th C. uniforms adapted to the climate of Oronegra. Unfortunately the PSR mentions no similar range in 1/72; now, some AWI ranges have troops in uniforms that would look very 'skimpy' -and thus 'lightened' to be worn in a hot climate- by WAS / SYW times?

  4. Oh I think I shall keep with 1/72 scale that way some of the muketed troops could be some sort of ceremonial guard for a government building when I go back to the modern stuff. just one of the ways I have thought about being able to re use as many figures as possible for multiple era's. I looked at the American militia and I might use them for either some citizenary or perhaps some pirates as there seems to be only one decent pirate set on the market in plastic (Orion) while the better uniformed ones could be ships crew for the national fleet.

  5. In 1/72 with short coats the 3D so-called 'Napoleonic' female infantry and artillery actually wear tricornes. Unfortunately the current packaging of the infantry is abysmally wargamer-unfriendly, with only 3 'privates' for 1 officer, 1 flag-bearer and a drummer!
It is quite plausible in an 'alternate' time line that a limited population constantly threatened by surrounding 'hostiles' had mobilized a part of its young female component, as Israel does since its creation. Besides, Dahomey had Amazons in the late 19th C., and who knows when such tradition appeared?

  6. AWI militia would be great for freikorps, militias and insurrectionists, if you have them. I still think the troops you displayed in your previous posting would be very suitable.

    1. I agree its just a Ben said though the plastic on those Austrians is quite firm and I do not want to break to many knives in making loads of Tricornes... anyway I have looked at the militia set and I am thinking of getting it for many things... more sailors, militia, pirates, etc, etc. :-)
