Oronegro's military groes but what about foes

Well, well christmas gave me 2 sets that I needed to build up my Oronegro force.... the HaT Württemberg Infantry and Strelets British Light Infantry in Egypt now of coarse this gives me some scope for civil wars or some other conflict.... some of the strelets light infantry will find themselves on board pirate ships once they are completed. However once I have painted that plastic mountain (well for me at least that's a lot of unpainted figs to have lying around, except those moderns, damn ooh shiny syndrome) I will need to consider some foes.

Now Laurence Strong (Larry) from the Wargaming Guild is sending me some figs, I am not sure how many yet, they are destined to be crew aboard the ships but I am sure there will be a few appropriate for some foes.

However I have a horrible habit of always looking ahead and planning what to get next... as you may have seen over the history of this blog. However don't worry these posts are fun and your advice is great... so what is gowan planning???

PIRATES
NATIVES
EUROPEAN (styled?) FOES
OTHERS

Pirates are simple really, I think that the gift from Canada should solve that, if not Cossacks will, or actual pirate sets... cossacks wear the right pants... the only reason they are on my realistic idea list. Natives are a bit more complex as I have yet to get a definite design for what they should look like. other Europeans or just European like foes are simple enough, plenty on the market though its a question of sorting out those few sets from the mountains of possibilities. and as for others, well not sure apart from strange jungle creatures.

right my followers, I think its best that any of you who have gamed with musket armed armies offer whatever advice you have before I do something stupid (again). I have also thought of a few bit and bobs to make but as always your input is invaluable. But most of all

What would you like to see in Oronegro?

Now onto official site business. greetings to CPBelt From a league of ordinary gamers welcome to the blog

  1. I would like to see the women of Orenegro. I love civilian figures and it would be lovely to see the native people in daily activities.

    1. thats a great idea. I have looked out for a few. the pilgrims and pioneer sets by Imex might be good and then a few Napoleonic civilians that are on the market would fill the ranks of average folk

  2. The Wurttemburg infantry looks like on Hat's better sets, and the Strelets set has so much character it would be fun to paint.

As for whats next...Some cavalry would be cool, though Oronegro's terrain may not favor cavalry much like Spain didn't, I'll let you decide of course! Good luck on whatever you choose!

    1. I hope so. however spain did produce some of the best cavalry in the world especially early on. but the great farming plane is very large and cavalry is needed for battles there... thanks for the advice. and part of the reason I got the Strelets set is it looked like fun, but what the Hell do I do with that russian, he looks like a pretty strange pirate but thats all I can think of.

  3. That sounds reasonable.
I forgot about the poor Russian that would come with the set! maybe they could make armed lumberjacks? :D

    1. lumberjacks now thats a thought... anyway whatever they get used for eventually I am sure that it will be reasonable.

tricornes and women -I known, in 1/72 they are *so* rarely available as a single figurine, so 'side by side'?

Curious to discover what 'type' you'll choose for the Natives! Given the context of Oronegro is quite 'outlandish' (seemingly in the 18th c. no land expedition from another 'white' settlement has reached it so far? Does the Kaxad empire even know of another 'white population?) you actually can pick any Ancient culture represented enough in 1/72; with maybe a few simple conversions to make it less immediately identifiable? Besides, the 'advanced' Kaxad empire and the 'wild' tribes can be of different technological level and different (though cross-related through mutual influence) 'look'. Too bad the Tékumel minis are 28mm, they are from the most original 'alternate ancient culture' I know of. 'Martians' (either of the 'Barsoom' or even 'Space 1889' types, in such scales the anatomical differences are not blatant) are either 18mm or 28mm -and metal to boot- but they can provide some visual inspiration. For (large) native boats Umbar-type ones with 'bat wings' sails may be inspirational in their 'exoticism'.

    Cheers and best wishes!

    1. thankyou, good for you I have found that there are some civilians in the recent haul so there are some women there although they are reasonably short.

thanks for the links though I am still trawling through PSR for all the shots and representations and have found a few.
