But I also want to do something with my dad. its been a while since we last made something together so I thought it would be nice to get him involved in making something. a father, son project, seeming that next year I'm off to university with any luck I must make the most of the time left in which we can both work on something together.
I have found a site full of pictures and information from which to gather ideas. |
but naturally I need to practice building, model buildings, and one thing I can practice on is bunkers. Why bunkers? because then I can improve my terrain building skills, get used to making more complex structures other than simple rectangular boxes that either have roofs and floors that slot together or are merely placed on top. The bunkers roof would be built in a similar manner to me previous building the little supply house but made from a different material.
built partially into the hillside this German 669 Open gunbunker would be a nice candidate |
this is the business end |
Here is the site I am using for ideas; http://www.bunkerfotos.nl/english take a look around and perhaps you'll see something that would be cool. Besides if I do one to sell it would be good to do something that would be of interest to buyers.
well get involved, with the potential to sell something I make I am looking to get lots of feed back. will what I make be any good? I can't make any promises... when will I start? not sure depends on how much work my father and I have to do.
Hey Gowan,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, it is a cunning plan indeed.
Seccond, as you allready wroted, you need to practise a lot. My advise to you is start with some small things untill you are fammiliar with the materiall used, for instance tobruks or barricades. Rests me nothing more to say goodluck and check your PM on benno's figures!
Michael
ok I'll check my PM. thanks also. and I was intending to start small. perhaps just a single room bunker.
DeleteCool Gowan, will this one with interest
ReplyDeletethanks Al should be a fun one. unfortunately this weekend was not the start of this project as we are replacing our kitchen.
DeleteI agree, it looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteOne good material for making these types of things is the foam packaging inserts from boxes. They come in just the right curves, and if you need to alter them they are easy to work with. I would coat them in glue before painting though, I'm not sure how well they would hold without some sort of primer.
University eh? Hopefully you will major in chemistry, the coolest thing out there ;D
I don't think we get the same type of foam as you then. all me get is nasty polystyrene, that is terrible to work with. but nice idea though.
Deletehmm let me guess... you took chemistry? :D taking physics I am afraid. though engineering is what I am possibly going to use it for.
I plan to major in it. I only took the two introductory semesters so far. It's difficult but I liked it.
DeletePhysics sounds interesting...aside from the mathy part.
ah ok. I did enjoy chemistry when I took it as part of a general sciences course. but physics seemed cooler at first... before the maths kicked in at it got complicated. Fortunately for me I have a graphics calculator!
DeleteAlways interesting to see, and to visit, the real buildings and places...nice post!
ReplyDeletePhil.
But I never visited any of these places :-P
